Research Interest:

Mirror Neurons, Imitation, Empathy and Social Cognition

Marco Iacoboni studies the neural mechanisms of imitation, empathy and social cognition, and their dysfunctions. In particular, he is interested in mirror neurons, the 'smart cells' that make us connect and empathize with others and let us understand the minds of other people. Marco Iacoboni's new book is MIRRORING PEOPLE, published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux in 2008.

Bio:

Marco Iacoboni is Professor of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and Director of the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Lab at the Ahmanson-Lovelace Brain Mapping Center. Iacoboni is originally from Rome, Italy and joined the faculty of the Brain Mapping Center at UCLA in 1999.
