I serve as co-director of the Stimulant Abuse and Addiction Research Group and as co-Investigator on several NIDA-funded grants to investigate the safety and efficacy of novel medications for methamphetamine or cocaine addiction. A key component of this effort will be to establish endophenotypes for stimulant dependence. I lead efforts to develop novel experimental approaches for the assessment of human self-administration patterns, and am interested in the role of stress system activation in stimulant abuse and addiction. In addition, I am involved in research that will characterize methamphetamine-related immunologic changes and evaluate a potential mechanism relevant to HIV infection and HIV disease progression.
